Prof. David Skopec

Born in Prague and raised in Ulm, David Skopec pursued his studies in Schwäbisch Gmünd and became a designer specializing in Information Design. His focus developed through his work on an exhibition about the visual language of the ISOTYPE movement, earning his diploma with a thesis on pictorial statistics and innovative teaching strategies using interactive media.

In 1993, Skopec began his academic career at the Berlin University of the Arts, simultaneously founding "kognito gestaltung," a design studio in Berlin. He has served as a consultant and designer for major companies in the Knowledge Economy sector and collaborated with scientific institutions. Skopec has been a jury member and expert reviewer, taught as a visiting professor for over 15 years in Mexico and China, and given numerous lectures and workshops worldwide.

From 2002 to 2003, he was a visiting professor at HGB Leipzig and led the Information Design program at ZHdK in Zurich from 2003 to 2011. His publications include "show" in 2002 and "Digital Layout" in 2003. The first volume of the anthology "Info Pop" showcasing his design studio's work was released in 2021. In 2022, "Infoklasse" was published, detailing project work at UdK Berlin, and in 2024, "Info Chat" which discusses Information Design in dialogue with a generative language model.

Since 2011, Skopec has been a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, heading the 'Infoklasse' for Information Design. He leads VISOP, a collaboration between his university and the Berlin Social Science Center, aiming to integrate social research with design.
